Nepal NTA Type Approval Process
A detailed guide to the end-to-end NTA Type Approval process, from initial document review through provisional certificate, permanent certificate and renewal.
Important: The process description below is based on the NTA Type Approval Working Procedure (TAP-04). Procedural requirements, fees, timelines and documentation standards may have been updated by NTA since this document was published. We recommend contacting us for a current product-specific assessment.
Process Overview
Document Pre-Assessment
Review available documentation before preparing the formal application.
Submit available technical documents — RF, EMC, SAR and safety test reports, product specifications, existing certifications, Declaration of Conformity and any other relevant technical material.
Our team reviews the documentation against known NTA requirements and identifies any gaps or issues that could delay or complicate the formal application.
We provide written feedback on documentation completeness and advise on the appropriate application pathway for your product.
This stage is strongly recommended before application preparation begins. It reduces the risk of rejection due to incomplete documentation.
Application Package Preparation
Prepare and compile the complete NTA Type Approval application package.
Preparation of NTA application forms (Parts A–E) based on the product specifications and available documentation.
Review and formatting of technical documentation for NTA submission standards.
Preparation of the Declaration of Conformity (in NTA format, Annex-4 of TAP-04 procedure).
Coordination of the Power of Attorney from the manufacturer or brand owner — required for the local representative to act on the applicant's behalf.
Preparation of administrative documents: company registration, PAN certificate and any other required corporate documents.
Payment of the applicable non-refundable NTA application fee. Note: the fee schedule in the 2016 TAP-04 procedure may have been updated; current fees are confirmed at the time of application.
The exact documentation requirements depend on the product type, technology category and applicable NTA procedure. Our pre-assessment identifies product-specific requirements.
Formal Submission to NTA
Submit the complete application package to Nepal Telecommunications Authority.
The complete application package is formally submitted to NTA on behalf of the manufacturer or brand owner.
As the authorised local representative, we receive and manage all correspondence from NTA during the review period.
If NTA requests additional information or clarification, we coordinate the response on your behalf.
We provide regular status updates throughout the review process.
NTA makes all approval decisions independently. Type Approval and IT Solutions Pvt. Ltd. does not determine or influence NTA's decision-making process. Approval timelines depend on application completeness, product type and current NTA workload. We do not guarantee a fixed completion date.
Provisional Type Approval Certificate
Upon successful review, NTA issues a provisional Type Approval certificate.
A successful NTA review results in the issuance of a provisional Type Approval certificate for the equipment.
The provisional certificate authorises the equipment for Nepal market use for the validity period specified in the current NTA procedure.
Equipment may be imported and used in Nepal under the provisional certificate, subject to applicable import and usage requirements.
The provisional certificate number and details are recorded for use in customs documentation and ongoing compliance.
Certificate validity, format and conditions are governed by current NTA procedure. The provisional certificate validity period in the 2016 TAP-04 document may not reflect the current requirement.
Permanent Periodic Certificate Application
Apply for the permanent certificate before the provisional certificate expires.
We track the provisional certificate expiry date and initiate the permanent certificate application within the prescribed advance period.
Preparation and submission of the permanent certificate application, including updated documentation as required by NTA.
Late applications — submitted after the prescribed deadline before expiry — may incur additional fees under the current NTA fee schedule.
The permanent periodic Type Approval certificate provides longer-term authorisation for Nepal market access.
The published 2016 NTA procedure specifies a provisional-to-permanent application deadline and a late-application provision. Current deadlines and fees should be confirmed at the time of application.
Certificate Renewal
Maintain uninterrupted Nepal market access through proactive renewal management.
We maintain a renewal tracking record for all certificates we manage and initiate renewal applications before the prescribed deadline.
Preparation and submission of the permanent certificate renewal application within the advance period specified by NTA.
Late renewal applications may attract additional fees under the current NTA fee schedule.
Upon successful renewal, the permanent certificate is extended for the period specified in the current NTA procedure.
Technical Standards and Equipment Testing
NTA Type Approval requires evidence that the equipment has been tested to relevant technical standards. The NTA procedure references requirements for:
RF / Radio Testing
Transmitter output power, operating frequencies, modulation and radio performance test reports.
EMC Testing
Electromagnetic compatibility test reports demonstrating compliance with applicable EMC standards.
SAR Testing
Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) reports where applicable — required for equipment with proximity to the human body. NTA specifies a maximum SAR limit.
Safety Testing
Electrical safety test reports or certificates from the manufacturer, brand owner or an accredited testing body.
Technical standards, frequency limits and power limits applicable to your specific product category should be confirmed through a pre-assessment. The published NTA procedure contains indicative technical requirements for certain device categories; current requirements may differ.
