Why International Companies Need Nepal NTA Type Approval
The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) requires Type Approval for customer-premises radio telecommunications equipment before it can be legally imported, marketed or used in Nepal. This applies to a wide range of wireless, IoT, automotive and cellular products.
Foreign manufacturers cannot apply directly to NTA. Under the applicable NTA procedure, applications must be submitted by an authorised local representative based in Nepal. This representative acts on behalf of the manufacturer or brand owner and holds a Power of Attorney for the application.

No. Type Approval and an import licence are separate requirements. NTA Type Approval certifies that the equipment meets technical and telecommunications standards. An import licence is a separate GoN (Government of Nepal) requirement governing the importation of goods. Both may be required for equipment to be legally imported and sold in Nepal.
