Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) Type Approval is the mandatory certification for customer-premises radio telecommunications equipment seeking Nepal market access.
What Is NTA Type Approval?
NTA Type Approval is the formal process by which the Nepal Telecommunications Authority certifies that customer-premises radio telecommunications equipment meets applicable technical requirements before it may be imported, sold or operated in Nepal.
The legal basis for Type Approval derives from the Telecommunications Act 2053 (1997) and the NTA Type Approval Working Procedure published by the authority. The current applicable procedure for customer-premises radio equipment is TAP-04.
Approval decisions are made exclusively by NTA. Type Approval and IT Solutions Pvt. Ltd. is an independent local representative and regulatory consultancy — it assists with the application process but does not determine outcomes.

Certificates
Provisional and Permanent Type Approval Certificates
The NTA Type Approval process involves two certificate stages. Understanding the difference is important for planning market entry timelines.
Provisional Certificate
The initial certificate issued upon a successful Type Approval application. The validity period is defined in the published NTA procedure. A successful provisional certificate is the first milestone for Nepal market access.
The applicant must apply for the permanent certificate before the provisional certificate expires. Late applications may incur additional fees under the current NTA schedule.
Permanent Periodic Certificate
The permanent Type Approval certificate provides longer-term authorisation for Nepal market access. It is valid for the period specified in the current NTA procedure and is subject to renewal.

Certificate Renewal
Permanent periodic certificates must be renewed before expiry. Under the published procedure, renewal applications should be submitted within the prescribed period before the certificate expires. Late renewal applications may attract additional fees.

Important Distinction
Type Approval Is Not an Import Licence
