Automotive Wireless in Scope
Automotive wireless products that transmit or receive radio signals as customer-premises radio telecommunications equipment may require Nepal NTA Type Approval before legal import, sale or use in Nepal. Common categories include:
- Telematics control units and connected vehicle modules
- Remote keyless entry and smart-key systems
- In-vehicle infotainment and head-unit wireless interfaces
- Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular and short-range radios embedded in vehicle systems
Scope for a specific module should always be confirmed against current NTA requirements and the product’s radio architecture.
Multi-Radio Complexity
Many automotive units combine several radio technologies in one housing. Each radio interface typically needs coherent RF documentation. Incomplete band coverage or mismatched model variants are common review risks.
Smart-key and access systems may involve multiple frequency elements. Infotainment platforms may combine WLAN, Bluetooth and cellular. Planning documentation per radio path early reduces rework later.
International Homologation vs Nepal Type Approval
Automotive suppliers often already hold regional approvals and laboratory reports. Those materials can support a Nepal file, but Nepal Type Approval is a separate NTA process. Local representation in Nepal is required for foreign manufacturers under the published procedure.
Type Approval is also distinct from vehicle import licensing and other Government of Nepal requirements that may apply to vehicles or parts.
